I’m Xinlin Wu, a freelance illustrator based in Wuhan, China. I hold an MA in Illustration from Kingston University. With over ten years of experience in visual design and brand communication, I bring a strong understanding of concept development, visual storytelling and commercial application to my illustration practice.
As a female artist, I am deeply interested in women’s inner lives and personal growth, which form the core of my current practice. My work explores solitude, identity, memory and the relationship between people and their surroundings. I portray solitude not as isolation, but as a quiet space in which women can restore themselves, develop independent thought and reconnect with their inner strength.
I often find inspiration in quiet moments from everyday life, as well as in music, cinema, literature, nature and different cultures. A sentence from a book, a scene from a film or a piece of music may stay with me for a long time, gradually becoming the starting point for a new illustration. I am also interested in reinterpreting cultural references, natural imagery and personal experiences through contemporary visual storytelling.
My visual language combines editorial storytelling with surreal imagery, moving between everyday reality and imagined spaces to communicate emotions, ideas and a sense of quiet strength.
My work has received Merit awards from the 3×3 International Illustration Show and has been licensed by frankie magazine for an A3 pull-out poster.
I am available for editorial illustration, publishing, book covers, brand collaborations, commercial commissions and licensing opportunities worldwide.
